Chinese Folk Art

A Living Tradition

Professor Mark Bender of the Chinese Culture program at Ohio State University, has spent considerable time in the rural provinces of China, studying folk art, culture, and daily life. His fascinating talk will include recent videotapes made in the homes of Chinese farmers and townspeople.

Carolyn Putney, Associate Curator of Asian Art at the Toledo Museum of Art, will present this illustrated introduction to one of the world’s longest continuous artistic traditions, spanning over 4,000 years. Marvel at magnificent landscape paintings with their remarkable calligraphy, ancient bronzes and jades excavated from tombs, exquisite ceramics textiles, and laquerware; and learn how these works were produced and used.
