Early Visions of Ohio, 1765-1865
The Earliest Views of Ohio in Color
September 12 - December 31, 2015
Early Visions of Ohio tells the story of the state from 1765 to 1865. Mr. Busta-Peck, in preparation for this exhibition, has identified more than 3,000 images of Ohio from that period, examining 300 collections in 32 states and seven countries. He has assembled a collection of over 100 objects with a significant number coming from the Cleveland Public Library.
The exhibition will document Ohio as it was perceived on the eve of European settlement and will illustrate how the landscape was transformed during the following century. It will feature the earliest views of Ohio in color, encompassing paintings and prints of Marietta, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Zanesville. A book-length catalog will accompany the exhibition.
