Edith Head & Co
Costumes and Jewelry from the Paramount Pictures Archive
May 21 - August 14, 2016
A new collection of fabulous costumes and jewelry from The Paramount Pictures Archive will be shown exclusively at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio beginning May 21. The exhibition follows the phenomenal success of Edith Head, Designing Woman in 2014, seen by more than 11,200 visitors to the Center.
This exhibition was designed to showcase the work of Edith Head and to acknowledge Howard Greer and Travis Banton - the two fabled designers who hired her as a sketch artist in 1924. Individually, the trio created costumes for Carole Lombard, Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Clara Bow, Gloria Swanson, Barbara Stanwyck, Veronica Lake, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and many others. Also included in this exhibition are works created by Irene Lentz, Mary Kay Dodson and a handful of contemporary costume designers.
A winner of eight Academy Awards, Edith Head worked on 1000 films in her 60 year career. Thirty-five years after her death, her name remains one of the most recognized and revered in the history of film.
Formerly of Lancaster, Randall Thropp has worked off-Broadway, in television and feature films. Since 2003, he has been the costume archivist at Paramount.
