Ohio Collects the Decorative Arts
Historic and Contemporary Decorative Arts from Ohio Collectors
February 7 to April 4, 2004
Ohio Collects the Decorative Arts opens to the public. This multifaceted exhibition presents a rich cross-section of Ohioans’ varied interests and the artful - and often functional - objects with which we surround ourselves. Items on display range from the whimsical creations by
folk and tramp artists to manufactured pieces such as art deco chromeware or 1940’s textiles. Blenko glass, dazzling and utilitarian, as well as antique and contemporary marbles, also beautiful yet purposeful in a different way, embody a spectrum of glass making. Clocks and Staffordshire ceramics combine skilled-hand artistry with factory production techniques.
Whatever the object, the collections in this exhibition serve to connect us to our past while shedding light on how we live today. Exhibition Curators are Hal Stevens and Tom Porter. The exhibition runs through April 6, 2004. Admission is free.
