Joseph O’Sickey’s vibrant paintings are expressions of his passion for lush gardens; the landscapes of France, Maine and Ohio; the raw energy of the zoo’s big cats; the thrills of the circus and for the greatest love of his life, his beautiful wife, Algesa.
As a painter, Joseph O’Sickey (1918-2013) won numerous awards including an Ohio Governor’s Award in 2013. In a lifetime of teaching, he encouraged children to draw and emphasized the importance of drawing to art students at Western Reserve, Kent State and The Ohio State University where he formed a lasting friendship with his colleague, Roy Lichtenstein. His paintings can be found in public and private collections world wide.
