PAUL HAMILTON: Poetry of Place
Contemporary American painter
May 22-September 5, 2010
Robert Stearns, Curator
Paul Hamilton is an emerging national talent based in central Ohio. Poetry of Place will focus exclusively on Ohio landscapes created from 1998 to the present. Hamilton is a contemporary American painter who is mining the lode of tradition, citing his admiration for the work of Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, other artists of the Barbizon school and the American artist Willard Metcalfe. Hamilton works in the traditional method of creating small plein air paintings on location, refining and developing those into larger works in his studio in Granville, Ohio.
The Decorative Arts Center presents this exhibition as part of a year-long 10th Anniversary celebration. The exhibition will tour to the Harcum Gallery at Wilmington College and then on to the Mansfield Art Center, Mansfield, Ohio. Paul Hamilton: Poetry of Place will be accessible to a broad audience and will offer an engaging view of the Midwestern “sense of place” in the development of American art.
