Charles Owens

Owens was born along the Ohio River to an opera singer and a saxophone player and moved to Columbus with his wife Frances and their children in 1949. Owens worked at a number of jobs—everything from a bootlegger to ice cream maker. He began painting as a child and later said that painting “calms your nerves….I just paint what I’ve seen. I like to paint history.”
