Throughout the week at DACO, the campers made beautiful and unique art projects such as marbled paper, marbled ornaments, marbled patterned scarves, lanyards, and wall hanging marbleized decorations. Megan Taylor, DACO's instructor, said “The kids were really excited about the hands on experience, as well as being able to marble unconventional items such as sticks and leaves found in nature.”
Last week the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio teamed up with the Ohio Glass Museum and Art & Clay On Main to present the Marbles and Museums Camp. The campers traveled to the three museums downtown in order to learn about and make their own marbled artwork. After you all take in the art of our newest exhibition, Three Voices: Conversations on Life and Conflict, come downstairs to our children’s area. The children’s area allows for children of all ages to let their creative side out with art activities tailored to them. We have recently revamped the children’s area to coincide with our current exhibition. There is a section dedicated to the artwork of Judy Brandon that lets children try their hands at doing their own emotion driven weather-based water colors. They can also use oil pastels to create their own bright Leslie Shiels inspired drawings and patterns. Young artists will also have the chance to form their own nature inspired sculpture like Carol Snyder using Model Magic. If you want more artistic opportunities for your children be sure to sign them up for the many art camps and classes that we are offering this summer. Descriptions of our classes and camps can be found on our website under Program, Classes, and Events. This past weekend the Decorative Arts Center was a part of Destination Downtown’s annual Walk-A-Bout. Walk-A-Bout is an event where families can walk through the different museums downtown and participate in activities at each location. Our activity invited visitors to create a beautiful cityscapes using stencils and chalk. The visitors were able to create their own piece of art, as well as contribute to a large cityscape mural. Visitors also took the time to walk through our current exhibition Three Voices: Conversations on Life and Conflict. Megan Taylor, who was in charge of the art activity, said, “It was really fun to have several groups of kids coming through, and how they all did the projects differently, as well as all the families, which really showed me a sense of community.” This event was also the perfect opportunity for visitors to learn more about the art education program and opportunities we provide.
